Solar Control Glass & Glazing
Solar Control Glazing Solutions
Helping to keep your interiors cooler to maximising the use of your living space
Our Solar Control glass option helps to prevent the build-up of heat during hot summer months and is ideal for large panes and applications like Conservatory roofing.
The solar control coating reflects the heat from the sun back to the outside of the glass keeping the interior cooler in the summer months, and significantly reduces the amount of heat that is able to pass into your property providing you with a more comfortable and useable living space.

When ordered, the solar control coating is integrated into our glass solutions for optimal solar performance, combined with Low ‘E’ glass for superior thermal insulation. The available colored tints also provide solar control by absorbing more heat and radiating it back outside. By combining a tint with the coating, you can further enhance the cooling performance.
The result? You get the best of both worlds — a solar control coating to keep your space cooler in the summer, and the thermal retention properties of Low ‘E’ glass to help maintain warmth during the winter months.
How Solar Control Glazing Works
Glass manages solar heat radiation through three key mechanisms: reflectance, transmittance, and absorptance.
These mechanisms are defined as follows:
- Reflectance – the proportion of solar radiation reflected back into the atmosphere.
- Direct Transmittance – the proportion of solar radiation transmitted directly through the glass into the property.
- Absorptance – the proportion of solar radiation absorbed by the glass.
In hot climates or buildings with high internal heat loads, solar control glass is used to minimize solar heat gain. It allows sunlight to pass through while reflecting and radiating a significant portion of the sun’s heat away.
In more temperate conditions, solar control glass can balance sunlight with high levels of natural light, providing comfort year-round.
